TABLES

LESSON 3.1: This lesson deals with TABLE tags, the TABLE tags are used to organize statistics or data on the document. The basic elements of the TABLE are the TABLE, TR, and the TD tags. The BORDER tag makes a border around the TABLE, the COLSPAN is used in the TD or TH tag to create a heading to create a column that stretches across the TABLE. The ROWSPAN can be used in the TD or TH tags to stretch the heading down the TABLE. CELLSPACING and CELLPADDING is added to the TABLE opening tag to add space to the cells. The WIDTH attribute is added to the opening tag to create a table of a certain width example: WIDTH="100", you can also CENTER the TABLE, or ALIGN="LEFT, RIGHT, CENTER" the contents of the TABLE.

Making tables, I will try to make a table here. And see how it, turns out along the way maybe I will learn something new!!! Ok, on to the process.

This lesson also covered adding sound and music to the homepage. The types of files that files that most browsers accept are .AU, .WAV, and .MID format files. These links go in the go in the BODY tag set. Two examples are:Slowly Forward Which has both the music and the image tags on it.

The EMBED SRC tag is useful if everyone has Netscape, or IE3.0 or higher. If you want your music to be heard on both Netscape and IE versions lower than 3.0 then you must use 2 different set of tags like this: BGSOUND SRC="MUSIC.MID"LOOP=1 and EMBED SRC="MUSIC.MID" HEIGHT=50 WIDTH=100 AUTOSTART=TRUE LOOP=TRUE HIDDEN=FALSE. In HTML 4.0 the OBJECT tags are the way to add sound to your page.

The same type of tag is used for the image IMG SRC="IMAGE.GIF"(don't forget the angle brackets). The different types of images are: GIFS, JPEG or JPG, GIF 89A(transparent), and ANIMATED GIFS. Some attributes to add to the tag set are ALT="text" HEIGHT="#" WIDTH="#", you can also ALIGN="LEFT, RIGHT, OR CENTER" the image (note that IE reads the center in the ALIGN tag but that Netscape does not).

There is one way to use images and avoid the user of your page to have to wait to for the image to load is to use a thumbnail. A thumbnail is an image which is smaller than the orignal, loads faster and is clickable (if you click on it you goto the larger image which is stored at a different site). A thumbnail is actually second image of the larger image.

Assignment make at least one table using the info in this lesson: TABLES
Locate at least one graphic that is not copy right protected and use it in your notebook an example is on my second page. Spend time in creating your web page.

LESSON 3.3: Dealt with paint shop pro and and where to get a demo version for use in lesson 5.
